March On PAC Applauds Abdul El-Sayed’s Commanding Debate Performance
Last night shows Michigan voters that Abdul understands the stakes of how to govern and fight back in a time of rising authoritarianism, and that he has what it takes to beat Mike Rogers
Washington, DC – With one week until Michigan’s August 4 primary, March On PAC today applauded Abdul El-Sayed’s debate performance, calling it a clear demonstration of the leadership this moment demands.
On the debate stage, El-Sayed showed a command of the stakes that this race is really about: how to govern and how to fight back at a time of rising authoritarianism. He rejected corporate money, named the tens of millions in outside spending propping up his opponent, and laid out a real plan to deliver for working families by ending the filibuster, passing bold legislation, and getting corporate money out of politics.
March On PAC said the performance also underscored the central question of November. The eventual Democratic nominee will face Republican Mike Rogers, and the surest way to lose that race is to blur the lines between the two parties.
“You do not beat a corporate Republican like Mike Rogers by nominating a Democrat who agrees with him on key issues voters are seeking leadership on,” said Andrea Pringle, President of March On PAC. “You beat the GOP with a fighter. Abdul El-Sayed is that fighter. He will end the forever wars, he refuses corporate money, and he will stand up to ICE instead of funding it. Those are real differences, and real differences are how you win. A candidate who takes the same positions as the other side on the issues that matter most gives voters no reason to show up. Abdul gives them a fight worth showing up for, and that is exactly what it will take to beat Mike Rogers and defend our democracy.”
